First of all, a big “Thank you!” to all of you who gave up your lunch hour today to come stand for marriage at the Capitol in St. Paul. With more than 200 supporters attending, today’s rally was one of the biggest yet, and just plain fun, as families, kids, grandparents, all came out and made a positive statement for marriage!
But today was just the start of our 3-day swing through Minnesota. If you couldn’t make it to St. Paul today, I hope you’ll join us tomorrow at noon in St. Cloud, at Granite City Baptist Church.
I’ve had to marvel at the courage and determination of our marriage supporters. Over and over today, I had people come up to me and say they’d watched the video of the protestors in Providence, and just had to come out and stand up to that kind of intolerance and harassment. The protestors thought they could intimidate us into silence, but their strategy backfired, and even more people are now standing for marriage after watching the protests.
One priest even told me that after seeing what happened back east, he has used virtually every homily to reminder his parishioners that they have an obligation to come out and stand for marriage. That’s the kind of spirit that will ultimately see victory in this debate over marriage. Truth and love will prevail!
Especially if you’re new to the work of NOM in protecting marriage, please join us. I’d love the chance to meet you in person, and to thank you for standing for marriage. And if you’re a long-time supporter, this is a great opportunity to introduce your friends and neighbors to NOM. The best way to build strong local networks of marriage supporters all across the country is by friends telling friends.
